As a specialist practice we are constantly evolving our approach to the design of Extra Care housing to maintain our position as market leaders in delivering bespoke design solutions. We have been instrumental in the definition of the Extra Care concept and our approach to design and delivery of the Extra care lifestyle has produced nationally recognised schemes, for example our scheme at Bainbridge features in the ‘Rural Communities Strategy’ as an exemplar scheme.

Our designs are being delivered in line with, and as part of, our evolving ‘Vulnerable and Older Persons Strategy’. We are committed to supporting and working in partnership with housing providers and Local Authorities to shape future communities in line with the changing expectations of Older and Vulnerable people living in society, whilst ensuring our designs meet local need and are as efficient as possible to both occupy and manage.

We have extensive experience in providing innovative designs to improve and replace outdated sheltered stock, through remodelling and new build methods - selected depending on best value and local need, and providing contemporary, flexible Extra Care housing facilities which promote independence, empowerment and accessibility – providing lifelong homes.

Langtry-Langton Architects have widespread experience in the design and Provision of Extra-Care hosing. Our first Extra Care scheme was delivered in 1999. Since then 25 Extra Care schemes providing over 1100 units, have been successfully delivered in partnership with Housing Associations and Local Authorities, demonstrating Extra Care housing is a core product in our business activity. We are confident that our design teams are experienced and committed to producing high quality developments for the whole team to be proud of.

We strive to ‘future proof’ the whole development – providing flexible solutions and embracing emerging technologies including Telecare and Telemedicine – care solutions using wireless technology to provide bespoke services and remote monitoring of physical wellbeing.

Our building are always designed to be constructed an operate in the most energy efficient manner possible – our two schemes in North Tyneside have both received a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating – providing some of the most energy efficient housing in the country.

Langtry-Langton Architects are committed to Partnership working and have extensive experience in this type of collaborative working. The Practice has completed over £85 million of construction projects which have been delivered under partnering arrangements. The Practice works with an ethos of Partnering to ensure all stakeholders have input into the design decisions to ensure successful outcomes are achieved.
