Crossley Heath School is a mid-Victorian Grade II listed former orphanage. The Governors appointed Langtry-Langton when the School achieved Grant Maintained status in 1989 and successfully bid for a number of phased projects to upgrade the building fabric and refurbish the teaching spaces at the School.
Work began on the external fabric with refurbishment of the masonry and lead work on the clock tower, and progressed to extensive re-roofing works and external masonry repairs. The work was carefully phased to minimise disruption to the running of the School, and external repairs closely followed the internal refurbishment of laboratories and renovation of internal floor structures.
Level access to all floors of the School was achieved through the installation of a lift into one of the School’s ventilation chimneys minimising the alterations required to the listed structure.
Recent work has included new games courts, languages and technology extensions, courtyard extensions and external canopies to provide outdoor social space.
